In a medium mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, corn meal, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center.
Separate the egg yolks and egg whites.
In another bowl mix the wet ingredients, by beating the yolks slightly with a whisk. Stir in buttermilk, vanilla extract and melted butter.
Add yolk mixture to the dry mixture. Stir it up. It is okay if it looks lumpy.
In another small bowl beat egg whites using a whisk until stiff peaks form.
Carefully and gently fold egg whites into flour and yolk mixture. Do not overmix the batter. The egg whites should not loose their stiffness.
Pour half cup of the waffle batter into your waffle iron, making sure not to overfill it. Sprinkle chocolate chips for extra chocolate taste. Pour some more batter to cover the chocolate chips and cook it.
Cook them as per your waffle iron instructions about 5-6 minutes.
Serve it warm, topped with strawberries, crème fraiche and maple syrup.
