Hello, I am Devangi and I live in Northern New Jersey in USA. I am a food blogger. I love to cook, eat and travel and eat more. On my blog, you will find all sorts of things cooking related specially Indian Vegetarian cooking and baking. I am a lifelong vegetarian with the exception of eating eggs. I love to cook seasonally as that’s how I learnt to cook and eat. I also love baking and its like therapy to me. I can frost a cake forever. I love spicy food but always have room for desserts.
I started this blog in 2011 as my way of documenting the food I was cooking and baking. Around same time, I was introduced to the amazing food publication called FOOD52. After uploading a few recipes without giving any careful thoughts, my recipes got some recognition. I introduced people to some recipes from Gujarati cuisine as I felt it is and was very underrepresented at that time. Gradually, I realized at that moment that I would like to have my own blog and that’s how I started my blogging journey. Honestly, I did not put in any extra efforts and once I started my full time job, my blog kind of took a pause. Although, the blogging took a backseat I got an amazing opportunity to publish this article – featured (here) I wasn’t working when I started the blog. I also got a call from the show The Chew on ABC to share a sandwich recipe on TV. It didn’t work out for personal reasons but would have been a great opportunity. In 2016, The Daily Meal approached me to be part of their culinary content network and some of my recipes were highlighted on their site too.
During quarantine, I found myself baking and cooking a lot. More than what I am used to. So, I was brought back to the idea of refreshing my blog with the hopes that I can share more recipes, love and passion for cooking with you all. My recipes are inspired by my Gujarati roots and lots of use of fresh ingredients. You will also see some fusion bakes inspired by my background. I am also a huge fan of slow cooking and cooking with unusual ingredients that people might have to get out of their comfort zone to try.
I have a Master’s degree in Social Work. I work full time as Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence Advocate. Something, I am also very passionate about. I am also featured on many news media platforms through my work. With the type of profession I have, find solace in baking and cooking. It’s kind of therapeutic for me.
I am very passionate about food and always thinking about what my next meal would be. I also love traveling a lot and have been lucky to have traveled to some amazing places. If you ever visited my old blog, you would have enjoyed some pictures.
All pictures and writing are mine, unless otherwise noted.
I would love to hear from you, whether you have a question, suggestion or want to work together. I can be reached at pistachiodoughnut [at] gmail [dot] com
